Rochester Postcard of the Day
In the lobby above each set of elevators
you'll find this series of relief images.
Sorry, they're a little hard to see.
Bad lighting, not-so-good camera.
Caution: this page contains statements
that may or may not be true. Goofy even.

This one features manufacturing, commerce and
our enormous bird construction industry.

Here we have a scene of the canal and aqueduct.
This one hints of our pagan worship of Greek
gods and the fact that Abe Lincoln farmed here.
(Not really. I don't know if that's our canal.)

This one shows a prosperous young city after the
Civil War. The inscribed date of 1868 tells us that
the happy couple might have been rushing to hear the
news of President Andrew Johnson's impeachment trial.

Finally, the modern times of 1943. The war is almost
over. But they didn't know that. Heck, for all they
knew it could have gone the wrong way. By the fall
of '44 they could have been eating nothing but
sauerkraut and wearing lots of black clothing. Like
being ruled by evil cabbage eating goths. It's a
scary world that thankfully never happened. Where
Rutger Hauer is a good cop and reveals the secret.
(But get the book , it's much better.)
