Rochester Postcard of the Day
Ever notice these? Like a message coming through a time machine.
When they're really faded it's like listening to an out-of-town
station on the AM radio late at night. If you turn your head you
seem to pick the signal from the static a little better but just
can't quite make it out. Stop squinting, that doesn't help either.

Here's one you don't don't have to squint at. At the corner of North
Clinton and Pleasant you'll find the former Michaels-Stern's & Co.
factory building. That's sure one spiffy logo. I watched them repaint
it from my office window about three years ago during their renovation.
They gutted the place and now it's full of nice loft apartments.

Here's a bit more of a close up. That's the back of the
building viewed from Pleasant near St. Paul Street.

Below left is a shot of the front of the building about 1896.
On the right is a copy of an advertisement from May 1903.
I guess male models have always been stiff and strong jawed,
with that "I'd be really busy, if I weren't so stiff" look.

Local History Division - from May 1903
The image of the advertisement was a little blurry but I
could make out that the suits were $10-$25 and upward.
Amazing what a 100 years of inflation will do to your prices.
Have a happy Tuesday.
