Rochester Postcard of the Day

Another faded advertisement from times past.

"Famous for Fabrics". In its own time maybe.
Today's high tech googlized world yielded nuthin'
on an internet search. If anyone has any information
or stories they'd like to share about Brodsky's just
email me at the address at the bottom of the page.

The ads are still visible on the west and north
sides of the Elk Hotel on North Clinton Avenue. If
you're not familiar with the Elk, it's a "welfare
hotel" with most of it's guests being paid by DSS.

This is the Elks Club in a view from around 1930.
The building on the left no longer exists. It opened
in 1893 as the Eureka Club, a Jewish social club but
was sold to the Elks Club in 1908. The Elks grew and
so did their clubhouse. On the right is the Annex
which stands today. It was built in the early '20s
with 58 sleeping rooms and even a bowling alley.
